The SCDAH recently completed a three-year National Historical Publications and Records Commission (NHPRC) funded project designed to expand the electronic records program beyond basic policy guidance to direct involvement with South Carolina state government agencies on key electronic records management issues. In 2004-2005, the project team produced Electronic Records Management Guidelines on the care, handling and management of electronic records. The team also investigated custodial and non-custodial approaches for archiving electronic records and developed a new process for establishing and approving specific records retention schedules for state government records, regardless of format.
