Security Microfilm Vault

"If the [microfilmed] records are of permanent value to the agency or subdivision concerned or are determined to be of archival value by the Archives, one master copy of each record filmed must meet standards approved by the Archives and be deposited there [with the Archives]."

This language is contained in the state’s Public Records Act (Code of Laws of South Carolina 1976, Section 30-1-130, as amended). The Archives receives for storage security microfilm from school districts; colleges; and state, county, and municipal governments.  In the past, we have stored archival film, long-term film, and short-term film.  In the interest of space, however, we are now assigning top priority to the storage of archival film, storing long-term film as space becomes available, and phasing out the storage of short-term film.  In the interest of security, we have established standards for acceptance and will return any film that falls short of those standards.  For more information contact Woodrow Ellisor at 803.896.6210 or John Zurlo at 803.896.6118.
